Sara Gilbert has filed to legally separate from wife Linda Perry after five years of marriage, Us Weekly has confirmed.

According to documents obtained by the celebrity news outlet, the Roseanne alum registered the paperwork in Los Angeles on Friday (December 27), in which she listed their date of separation as August 13. As for the cause for separation, Gilbert reportedly cited “irreconcilable differences” as her reason, and is pursuing joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s 4-year-old son, Rhodes.

After two years of dating, the singer-songwriter and 44-year-old actress became engaged in April 2013 and wed the following March. The pair welcomed their first and only child in February 2015, though Gilbert has two other children — son Levi, 15, and daughter Sawyer, 12 — from her previous relationship with Ali Adler.

The breakup news comes just a month after Perry divulged that she and Gilbert would not be expanding their family. “Sara can’t have any more kids. That part’s done. We barely squeaked out this one,” Gilbert told Us in November, revealing she intended to mentor children instead.

“I love kids. I’m always doing panels. I’m always trying to teach kids,” she added. “My artist friends are always bringing their 13-year-olds to my studio, like, ‘OK! Do your thing!’ So it’s fun. There are always kids. There’s always somebody that needs you.”
